Condolences

Condolence From: Andy Stone
Condolence: I first met Ella (and Percy) 25 years ago, as a new employee of The Trust for Public Land (where I’m still employed). I worked closely with them on the preservation of their garden, and on funding some of the activities they led at the garden. Ella and Percy distinguished themselves in so many ways, but especially by their commitment to improve and beautify their neighborhood as well as their incredible commitment to the children in the area. Other gardens sponsored a kid’s activity here and there; but Ella and Percy ran a mini-day camp, with minimal funding but an incredible commitment of time and caring. Ella and Percy were also unique among community gardeners in their personal interest in and commitment to the citywide community gardening movement. They surpassed virtually any other community garden leaders in the frequency of their trips to Manhattan to attend meetings. So many people knew and adored Ella and Percy. Ella and I always had a very special relationship. She was such a warm, giving person. I remember that when I introduced her to my fiancé (now my wife), Ella was moved to tears. But in addition to being such a warm, emotional person, she was also a force to be reckoned with! Anybody with any plans for Lakewood Garden of Eden had better go right to Ella, and not dare go around her. We will all continue to be inspired by this great woman.

Condolence From: Chris
Condolence: I am so sorry for your loss of Ella. Please accept my condolences.
I know you will miss Ella very much. Death can leave us with so much pain. But we can look to God's word for comfort. Psalm 55:22 promises that God will sustain us if we throw our burdens on him.
I look forward to seeing Miss Ella again in the resurrection (John 5:28,29). I'm sure she and Percy will be helping family/friends, gardening, etc. What a joyous time that will be.
I hope these scriptures bring you the comfort and hope that they bring me.
