Obituary for Dorothy Myers

Dorothy Mildred Rhinehart Myers was the fourth daughter born to the Late Walter H. & Mozella Rhinehart on December 28, 1930 in Aiken County, South Carolina. She was educated in the local school system. She was converted and baptized at an early age at the Mt. Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Montmorenci, South Carolina.

Dorothy migrated to New York in 1949, where she met her husband, the late Joseph Lorenzo Myers. She was last employed as a Social Worker for the State of New York before she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. To a regular person receiving this diagnosis may have meant devastation but in Dorothy it manifested itself in determination. Never seeing herself as disabled, she traveled the world and enjoyed cooking wonderful meals for friends and family. She was affectionately known to many as “Aunt Dot”. She had an infectious smile and enjoyed a hearty meal whenever presented.

In recent years, she relocated to Atlanta where she continued to cheer on her favorite teams Yankees and Mets with her favorite game snacks. She enjoyed the outside and warm weather of the South, going outside to sit on the porch daily. While sitting and enjoying the weather, she often admired the birds and watching her favorite shows. She served as an inspiration to many.

She leaves to preserve her memory, Daughters, Arnette Gail Brown and Sharon Rose Hale both of Atlanta, Georgia and Kimberly Spentz of New York; Sons, Keith (Mary) Spentz of California and Joseph Walter Myers who preceded her in death; Sisters; Jessie M. Corley and Gladys (Jesse) Atchinson of New York; 14 Grandchildren and a Host of Great Grandchildren; Nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.
