Obituary for Althea Mary "Thea" Robinson

Althea Mary Dunham-Robinson was born on December 2, 1958 in Brooklyn, New York to the late James Ervin Dunham and Georgia Mae Dunham. Althea was one of nine siblings. Michael Blane Dunham the eldest brother preceded her in death on November 2, 1996.

Althea was raised in East New York Brooklyn and educated in the New York City public school system. She attended Marymount Manhattan College and majored in Business Administration. She worked thirty years as a Claims Examiner for Blue Cross Blue Shield until her death.

Althea cherished her only daughter Tahema Nicole Dunham and her two beautiful grandchildren Tahj and Samaya Roberts who they affectionately called Nanna. Althea met and married her husband Raymond Robinson on May 12, 2006. Althea was a great bonus mom to his daughter Raven and grandmother to her son Zaire.

Althea accepted the Lord as her personal Savior and was baptized at Gethsemane Baptist Church, under the late Bishop Benjamin Kelley.

Althea was a kind, generous and a beautiful person. She was always meticulous when it came to her looks, her signature fashion statement was her red lipstick. She loved to look good and always made sure that her hair looked good and that her nails were always done. She loved fashion and loved to shop.

Althea loved her family and cherished moments when we were all together for the holidays and summer barbecues. Her signature dishes were her delicious collard greens, potato salad and deviled eggs. No one could make potato salad the way she did.

Althea was a survivor of 911, she was in the Second Tower when it was struck on that dreadful morning. She loved sharing her story with anyone who was interested in hearing how God guided her out of the building on that horrible day, There’s a photo captured by one of the Daily News reporters of her running barefoot through the streets of Manhattan covered in debris with shoes in hand and holding her hand over her head. Althea was also interviewed for a 911 television documentary for the First Anniversary of the 911 terrorist attack. God spared her life on that horrific day and allowed her to share her story with so many who were inspired by her life. She loved to tell you how our dad came to her in a dream and warned her that this attack was going to happen, but that she was going to make it out safely. Althea was a courageous woman and even though she became ill with a respiratory illness exacerbated by this attack she didn’t let that stop her from living her best life.

Thea as we all affectionately called her departed this life into her eternal rest on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Kingsbrook Hospital. We all loved Thea so much and will miss her deeply. Her memories of the life she lived and the person that she was will always be etched in our hearts forever. We would always remember her beautiful smile and her warm personality. Althea leaves to cherish her memory: a loving husband Raymond Robinson; her devoted daughter Tahema Dunham; a bonus daughter Raven Robinson; three grandchildren, Tahj Roberts, Samaya Roberts and Zaire Franklin; her devoted mom Georgia Mae Dunham; a special uncle Richard Dunham Sr.; five sisters Gail Crawford (Donovan), Gwendolyn Newby (Shawn), Jacqueline Oliveras (Carlos), Kimberley Robinson (Timothy), Cassandra Minus (Robert); two brothers, James Ervin Dunham, Richie Dunham and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
